THIRD CULTURE KIDS
Third Culture Kids (TCKs) include children of diplomats, missionaries, international business people, educators, and NGO workers who spend a significant portion of their childhood in a country or countries other than that of their parents, and who incorporate elements of all the countries lived in to create their sense of "global nomad" identity. (Definition adapted from Pollock/Van Reken/McCaig)
The "first" culture is represented by their passport culture, the "second" culture by the country or countries in which they live while growing up, and the "third culture" is the extent to which they blend elements from all of those to create their own cultural identity.
